How to play

This game helps children learn the Swedish alphabet in a playful way. It has three modes. In Which letter? a picture with a real Swedish word is shown and the child chooses the letter the word begins with. In Find the letter a target letter is shown and the child taps the same letter in a grid. In Missing letter a short run of the alphabet is shown with a gap, such as A B _ D, and the child picks the letter that fits. Each round has ten questions and ends with a score and up to three stars.

Note that the letters and example words stay Swedish, because this is the Swedish alphabet – which makes the game a great little language exercise too. The Swedish alphabet has 29 letters: the usual A–Z plus three extra vowels at the end, Å, Ä and Ö. Every letter is paired with a word a child knows, like "A som i Apa" (A as in monkey) and "Ö som i Öga" (Ö as in eye), so the sound and the shape are learned together. Tap the loudspeaker button to hear the word and the letter read aloud.

You can switch between capital letters (ABC) and small letters (abc) so children practise both. Learning letters is the very first step towards reading, and short, repeated rounds work best for little ones. Your best score is saved locally in the browser, so a child can keep trying to beat their own record without any account or login.
