How to play
The 15 puzzle is one of the world's oldest and most loved brain teasers. The board holds numbered tiles and a single empty space. Click or tap a tile next to the empty space and it slides in – row by row you nudge the numbers into place. Your goal is to end up with the tiles in order, from 1 in the top-left corner down to the last number, with the empty space at the bottom right.
The game counts both your moves and your time, and your best result for each board size is saved locally in your browser. Only solvable positions are ever dealt, so every puzzle you get can definitely be finished – there is no luck involved, only logic and patience.
A reliable method is to solve the top row first, then the left column, and keep shrinking the puzzle until only a 2×2 block remains. Choose 3×3 for a quick warm-up, 4×4 for the classic challenge or 5×5 when you really want to test yourself. The large tiles work just as well with a finger on a phone as with a mouse.
