Fia – the Swedish version of Ludo
Roll the die, move your four pieces round the board and be the first to get them all into the goal. Send opponents back home by landing on them – but watch out, they can do the same to you. Play against one to three computer players or with friends on the same device.
How to play
Fia is the Swedish name for the classic race game that many countries know as Ludo, a family of games descended from the Indian Pachisi. Two to four players each have four pieces in their own colour – red, blue, yellow and green – waiting in a home base in a corner of the board. The pieces run clockwise along a track of 40 squares and then turn into their own coloured home column of four squares that leads to the goal in the centre. The first player to get all four pieces into the goal wins.
You need a 6 to move a piece out onto your start square, and a 6 also gives you an extra roll. If you have no piece out on the track you get up to three tries to roll a 6. If you land exactly on an opponent's piece it is sent back to its base and has to start again, while you may never land on one of your own pieces – but you may jump over any piece. To enter the goal you need the exact number; if the roll is too high, that piece cannot move. The optional rule "Move out on 1 or 6" makes it easier to get going, which suits younger players.
Choose who plays each colour by tapping the buttons: a person, the computer or off. You can play one against one to three computer players, or two to four people on the same phone or tablet and pass it round. Highlighted pieces are the ones you can move; if only one move is possible it is made automatically. The computer players like to send pieces home, bring new pieces out and get to safety in the home column, and they try to avoid stopping just in front of an opponent. Your wins against the computer are saved in your browser.
You can also play on separate devices: tap "Play with friends (link)", choose two to four players and whether the rule "Move out on 1 or 6" should apply, and send the link to the people you want to play with. Everyone who opens the link gets the next free colour, and the game starts as soon as every seat is taken. The die is rolled on the server so nobody can cheat, everyone sees the same moves as they happen, and a green dot shows who is connected. The room is kept for 14 days, so you can carry on later with the same link. Online games are not counted in your statistics against the computer.
