Mental maths against the clock – 60 seconds
How many sums can you solve in one minute? Choose addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or a mix, pick a level and race the clock. Type your answers on the big number pad or the keyboard, build long streaks and try to beat your own record – for school years 2 to 9.
How to play
Choose an operation – Plus, Minus, Times, Divide or Mixed – and a level, then press Start. You have 60 seconds to solve as many sums as you can. Type the answer on the large number pad or with the keyboard (digits, Backspace and Enter). The answer is checked as soon as you have typed enough digits, or when you press OK, so you can keep going without pausing. Every correct answer counts as one point, and correct answers in a row build a streak 🔥. A wrong answer shows the right result for a moment, which costs a little time.
The levels follow what pupils meet in school. Easy uses numbers up to 10 for addition and subtraction within 20, the 1–5 times tables and division by 2–5 (around years 2–3). Medium works within 100 and covers all times tables from 2 to 10 (around years 4–6). Hard adds two two-digit numbers, subtracts within 200, uses the 6–12 times tables and two-digit numbers times a single digit, for example 14 × 6 (around years 7–9). Division always comes out as a whole number, because every division is built from a multiplication fact.
Mental maths becomes fast when number facts are automatic, and short, timed practice is a good way to get there. Useful strategies are number bonds to ten (7 + 3), doubles (6 + 6), counting in tens (47 + 30) and using a known fact you already know (8 × 6 is double 4 × 6). After each round you get a list of the sums you got wrong with the correct answers, so you know exactly what to practise.
