Killer sudoku – sudoku with cage sums
Play killer sudoku for free in your browser. Every row, column and 3×3 box must contain the digits 1–9, and the digits in each dashed cage must add up to the small number in its corner. Three levels, pencil marks, undo, error checking and a timer that saves your best time.
How to play
Killer sudoku follows the normal sudoku rules: every row, every column and every 3×3 box must contain each of the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. In addition the grid is divided into cages, shown with dashed lines. The small number in the top-left corner of a cage is the sum of the digits inside it, and a digit may not repeat within a cage. Tap a cell and then a digit, or use the keyboard on a computer (digits, arrow keys, Backspace and N for notes).
Because each row, column and box holds 1 to 9, each of them adds up to 45. This "rule of 45" is the most useful trick: if the cages in a box add up to more or less than 45, the difference tells you the value of the cells sticking in or out. Learn the unique combinations too: two cells with the sum 3 must be 1 and 2, the sum 17 must be 8 and 9, three cells with the sum 6 must be 1, 2 and 3, and the sum 24 must be 7, 8 and 9.
There are three levels. Easy has small cages and a few digits already filled in, Medium has cages of up to four cells and no given digits, and Hard has cages of up to five cells. Every puzzle has exactly one solution, checked by a solver when the puzzles were generated. Pencil marks, undo and error highlighting are optional helpers, and your game and best time per level are saved locally in your browser.
