Digital clock – analogue, digital and spoken time

Practise switching between an analogue clock face, digital 24-hour time like 14:30 and the way time is said in Swedish, such as “halv tre” and “kvart i fem”. Three levels go from whole and half hours to every minute and morning, afternoon and evening.

Note: the spoken times are in Swedish (for example “halv tre” = 2:30), since the game is made for Swedish schools.

How to play

Each round has ten mixed questions. Sometimes an analogue clock is shown and you pick the matching digital time. Sometimes a digital time is shown and you pick how it is said in Swedish, or pick the right clock face. In other questions the time is written in words and you set the digital clock yourself with the plus and minus buttons. Ten right answers give three stars, and the best score per level is saved in your browser.

Easy uses whole and half hours, Medium adds quarters and five-minute steps, and Hard uses every minute together with morning, afternoon and evening, so that 3:30 in the afternoon becomes 15:30. In Swedish, 7:30 is “halv åtta” (half towards eight), 7:25 is “fem i halv åtta” (five to half eight), 7:35 is “fem över halv åtta”, 7:20 is “tjugo över sju” and 7:40 is “tjugo i åtta”.

A digital clock usually counts the hours from 00 to 23. To go from 24-hour time to the clock face, subtract 12 from hours after noon: 14:30 is half past two in the afternoon. When the spoken time does not say morning or evening, both answers count. The game complements the analogue clock game, where children first learn to read the hour and minute hands.
