Reading comprehension – short Swedish texts with questions
45 short texts in Swedish for children in years 1–4, each with three or four questions. Read a story or a fact text about animals, seasons and Swedish traditions, then answer questions about what it says, what you can work out and what words mean. The texts are in Swedish; the buttons and help are in English.
Note: the texts and questions are in Swedish, because the game is made for Swedish school reading.
How to play
Choose a level and read the text in the box. The questions are right below it, so the child can look back at the text while answering. Each question has three answer buttons. After an answer the right option turns green, and for questions about facts in the text the sentence that holds the answer is highlighted in yellow. When all questions are answered the text gives up to three stars, and the best result for every text is saved.
The questions are of three kinds, the same kinds used in Swedish reading lessons. Find it in the text asks for something that is written straight out, such as a name or a colour. Think about it asks for something the child has to work out, for example why a character feels a certain way. Word asks what a word or phrase from the text means. Easy texts are 40–70 words for years 1–2, Medium texts 80–130 words for years 2–3 and Hard texts 130–200 words for years 3–4.
The texts are written for this game and mix short stories with fact texts about Nordic animals, the seasons and Swedish traditions like Lucia, Easter, Walpurgis Night and Midsummer, as well as the right of public access. If the browser supports speech, the Read aloud button lets the device read the text in Swedish while the sentence being read is marked. Progress is stored only in your browser, with no account.
