Nonogram – paint by the numbers
A logic puzzle where the numbers along the rows and columns tell you how long the filled blocks are. Fill the right squares and a hidden picture appears – a heart, a cat, a tree and more.
Click a square to fill it, click again to mark it with × (empty), and a third time to clear it. Right-click marks × directly.
How to play
Nonogram – also called picture cross or Hanjie – is a logic puzzle on a grid. Every row and every column has a set of numbers that describe the filled blocks in that line, in order. A clue like 3 1 means a block of three filled squares, then at least one gap, then a single filled square. By comparing the clues for rows and columns you can work out exactly which squares must be filled and which must stay empty.
Start with the biggest numbers and the longest lines, since they leave the least room for doubt. Use the × mark for squares you have proven must be empty – it keeps the board clear and stops you from filling them by mistake. When every filled square matches the hidden picture, the puzzle solves itself automatically and a small motif appears: a heart, a cat, a tree, a flower and more.
The puzzles come in three sizes, from a quick 5×5 to a trickier 10×10. Your fastest time for each picture is saved locally in your browser, so you can try to beat your own record. Nonograms are pure logic – you never have to guess if you read the numbers carefully – which makes them a calm and satisfying way to train concentration.
