How to play

Reversi – also known as Othello – is a strategy game for two players on an 8×8 board. You play the black discs and the computer plays the light ones. On your turn you place a disc so that one or more of the opponent's discs are trapped in a straight line between the disc you just placed and another of your discs. Every trapped disc is flipped to your colour. You may only play a move that flips at least one disc, and the valid squares are marked for you.

If you cannot make a valid move your turn is passed automatically. The game ends when the board is full or neither player can move, and whoever has the most discs on the board wins. It is perfectly possible to be far behind in the middle of the game and still win at the very end – a single move in a corner can flip the whole balance.

The corners are the most valuable squares because a disc placed there can never be flipped. Be careful with the squares right next to a corner, since they often hand the corner to your opponent. Choose Easy for a relaxed game or Hard for an opponent that looks several moves ahead. Your wins and losses are saved locally in your browser.
