How to play
Tangram is a dissection puzzle from China made of seven pieces cut from one square: two large triangles, one medium triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram. All triangles are right-angled and isosceles. The goal is to cover the dark silhouette exactly, using all seven pieces without overlaps. Drag a piece with your finger or mouse, tap it to turn it 45 degrees, and use the flip button to mirror the parallelogram – it is the only piece whose mirror image is a different shape.
The pieces are related by area. If a small triangle counts as 1, the square, the medium triangle and the parallelogram are 2 each, and each large triangle is 4, so the whole set adds up to 16. That helps when solving: a part of the silhouette shaped like a big right triangle is often a large triangle, and the square, the medium triangle and the parallelogram can each be replaced by two small triangles. Pieces snap to corners of the silhouette and of other pieces when you drop them close, which makes exact placement easy on a phone.
There are 30 figures: animals such as a cat, a rabbit, a swan and a turtle, a runner and a snowman, a house, a church, vehicles, letters, a number and geometric shapes. Start with the simple shapes and move on to the animals. If you get stuck, the hint button shows the outline of one piece. Your solved figures and best time per figure are saved locally in your browser, and an unfinished figure is still there when you come back.
