How to play

Yatzy is played with five dice and a score sheet of fifteen boxes. On each turn you may roll up to three times: after the first roll you hold the dice you want to keep by tapping them, then roll the rest again to improve your hand. When you are happy – or out of rolls – you choose one box to record your result in. Every box can be used only once, so part of the challenge is deciding when to settle for a low score and when to gamble for a big one.

The upper section counts ones through sixes: you score the sum of the dice showing that number. Collect at least 63 points up top and you earn a 50-point bonus. The lower section rewards combinations – one pair, two pairs, three of a kind, four of a kind, a small straight (1-2-3-4-5 = 15), a large straight (2-3-4-5-6 = 20), a full house, chance (the sum of all dice) and Yatzy, five of a kind, worth a full 50 points.

This is a solo version: you play against your own best total, which is saved locally in your browser. There is no login and nothing is sent anywhere. A good tactic is to secure the upper-section bonus early, keep Chance as a safety net, and never throw away your Yatzy box unless you truly have to – a lucky five-of-a-kind can decide the whole game.
