Guess the electricity price – today's challenge

How well do you know today's spot prices? Guess the average price in öre/kWh for the bidding zones SE1–SE4 and finish with the bonus question about the cheapest hour of the day.

How to play

Sweden is divided into four bidding zones: SE1 (Luleå) and SE2 (Sundsvall) in the north, and SE3 (Stockholm) and SE4 (Malmö) in the south. In the game's first four rounds you guess today's average spot price in öre per kilowatt hour, excluding VAT, for one zone at a time. If you land within 10 percent of the correct answer you get 100 points, within 20 percent gives 60 points and within 40 percent gives 30 points. After each guess you see today's average, lowest and highest price for the zone.

In the bonus round the challenge is to pick the hour of the day when electricity is cheapest in SE3 – if you hit the right hour, or miss by just one hour, you get 50 extra points. Electricity is often cheapest at night and in the early morning when demand is low, but on sunny and windy days the pattern can look completely different.

The prices are fetched from today's spot prices on the power exchange and are updated every day, so the challenge is new each day. Your best result for today's date is saved locally in your browser.
