How to play

Sweden is divided into 290 municipalities, from Kiruna in the far north – the largest by area – down to tiny Sundbyberg outside Stockholm. In this game you get to practise where some of the best-known towns and municipalities actually sit on the map. Being able to place cities geographically is surprisingly useful, whether you are planning a trip, following the news or simply want to shine at the pub quiz.

Points are awarded according to how close your click lands to the real location, measured as the crow flies in kilometres. A pinpoint guess within 15 kilometres gives full marks, while landing a couple of provinces off gives fewer points. After seven rounds the result is added up and your personal best is saved locally in your browser.

A good trick is to learn a few anchor points: Stockholm on the east coast, Göteborg on the west coast, Malmö at the very south and Kiruna high up in Lapland. From these you can reason your way to where smaller places lie. The more you play, the better your sense of the map becomes – and the faster you find the right spot.
