Guess the population – higher or lower?

Does the next municipality have more or fewer inhabitants? Guess right and build your streak – one mistake and the round is over.

How to play

On the left you see a Swedish municipality with its number of inhabitants. On the right a new municipality appears – but without its population figure. Your task is to guess whether the new municipality has more or fewer inhabitants than the one shown. Guess right and your streak grows by one, and the new municipality takes over as the starting point. Guess wrong and the round is over. Should both municipalities happen to have exactly the same population, it always counts as correct.

The differences are enormous: Stockholm has close to a million residents, while the smallest municipalities in the list have fewer than ten thousand. Big-city municipalities and the fast-growing regions around Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö sit at the top, while many municipalities in the north and in rural areas are far smaller – even if they cover a much larger area on the map.
