Where is the camera? – guess the place from a live road camera
We show a live picture from one of Trafikverket’s road cameras somewhere in Sweden. Look at the landscape, the snow, the road and the light – then guess where the camera is: in which part of Sweden, in which county, or exactly on the map. Ten pictures per round!

How to play
Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, runs more than 1,500 road cameras along Swedish roads, from the E6 in Skåne to the E10 above the Arctic Circle. The cameras help road users see the weather and road conditions, and the pictures are published as open data under the CC0 licence. In this game we pick a random camera and show its latest live picture – the camera name is hidden until you have answered, because it usually reveals the place. To keep the game fair we first pick a county at random and then a camera in that county, so densely covered Västra Götaland and Stockholm do not dominate.
There are three levels. Easy: choose the part of Sweden – Götaland in the south, Svealand in the middle or Norrland in the north, which covers more than half of the country’s area. Medium: choose the right county among four alternatives; Sweden has 21 counties (län). Hard: tap on the map where you think the camera is. You get up to 100 points per picture depending on how close you are as the crow flies, so a full round gives at most 1,000 points. After each answer you see the camera name, the county and a link to the spot on OpenStreetMap.
Look for clues: snow and frost, mountains or flat farmland, pine forest or beech trees, coast and bridges, road numbers and signs, and the angle of the sun. Remember that the pictures are live – at night and during the dark winter months many pictures are dark, especially in the north, and fog or rain can make the view grey. If a camera is out of order we automatically skip it. Your best score per level is saved locally in your browser.
